The Gore Rangers dearly missed seven of their starters in Tuesday night’s fall to the Saints.
The Vail Christian Saints maintained a full court press the entire game against cross county rival the Vail Mountain School Rangers. The smothering 73-14 win brings the Saints to 11-2 on the season and the Rangers to 4-12. Turnovers took their toll on the Rangers and the game quickly slipped through their hands.
The Saints scoring began right away, with Oliver Neumann dropping eight of his 14 points in the first half. Buckets came hard for the Rangers, Leif McGinley had six and Luke Schwartz contributed 4 of the Rangers 14 total points. Brody Sterkel was the second highest scorer for the Saints with 11 in the game. The rest of the starting line-up were fairly even in the rest of the scoring for the Saints.
Just before the second quarter ended, the referees called for the clock to continue running as the half-time score was 51-8.
On the girls side of the court, the Rangers came away with a 20-19 win in an exciting defensive battle to start the evening of basketball. Throughout the first half both teams deflected passes, contested shots and blocked shots out of bounds. At the half, the Saints led 14-12, but lost a hard fought battle in the end, losing by a single point. This is only the second year that the Rangers have put a girls team on the court and they have a 10-7 record on the season, the Vail Christian Saints hold a 5-6 record.
