Eagle Valley boys win, 55-42, and the girls lose by two, 34-36.
The Eagle Valley Devils move to 14-3 on the season with their win over the 7-11 Glenwood Springs Demons Thursday night in Gypsum, 55-42.
The first half of the Devils/Demons matchup Thursday night saw both teams playing aggressive basketball, resulting in lots of time “in the bonus.” At the half, the Devils were up 26-17.
In the third quarter, Eagle Valley hit their stride and never looked back. The Demons tried to come back, but the end result was a Devils win, 55-42.
Top scorers for Eagle Valley were Tavin Shreeve with 12 points and Kaden Campbell came off the bench to drop 11 on the Demons. The Glenwood Springs hoopsters had two players score nine points each in the battle, Jackson Wood and Lamanie Portillo.
On the girls side, The Lady Devils surged in the first quarter, jumping out to a 9-0 lead. The Demons struggled a bit on defense early, but came back to narrow Eagle Valley’s lead to two at 15-13 at the half.
At the end of the game, free throws proved to be one of the deciding factors in the contest. The Demons held off the Devils to win the game, 36-34.
Eagle Valley’s Lily Bruick dropped in 10, Ella Webster sunk 8 and Esme Almanza contributed 7. The Lady Demons’ Becca Fuentes had 18 points and Ivee Enewold had 11 in the win. The Devils move to 8-9 on the season with the Demons at 11-7.
