The Battle Mountain Huskies defeated the Steamboat Springs Sailors, 4-2 on Friday night in Eagle. This was the second win for the Huskies this season against the defending state champion Steamboat Sailors. This brings the Huskies to a record of 12-1-1 on the season.

Scoring started early for Battle Mountain with a slapshot goal from George Grayson a mere two minutes into the game. Gannon Sharkey followed his teammate in scoring the second goal of the night only three seconds into a Huskies power play to bring the score to 2-0.

In the second period, Sailor Gavin Wittlinger scored on a play that might have been a high sticking penalty, but referees gave Steamboat the goal for a 2-1 lead by the Huskies. Battle Mountain’s Brennan Koenig lifted the Huskies to a 3-1 lead, scoring with just 12 seconds left in the second period.

The defending state champs inched closer to even the score when Sawyer Vietanen brought the Huskies lead to one, making the score 3-2. That didn’t last long because Nathan Rahe scored the final goal of the third period, leaving the Sailors defeated, 4-2.
