Leave your granola bars at home if you come for the fifth annual Hike, Wine & Dine at Beaver Creek! Hikers participating in this year’s event will refuel along the trail with some of the region’s best gourmet tastings and spectacular views. And if the golden aspen leaves and delicious cuisine aren’t enough, hike for a good cause on September 22, 2013 with event proceeds going to Jack’s Place and Shaw Regional Cancer Center.
“We are so grateful for another year of Hike, Wine & Dine,” said Peggy Carey, Vice President of Shaw Regional Cancer Center. “The colors will be beautiful, the food will be delicious and many members of our community will be hiking to raise funds for the operating costs of Jack’s Place, our cancer caring lodge for patients undergoing treatment.”
The hike will take place on Beaver Creek Mountain and feature food from the Osprey, Park Hyatt’s 8100 Mountainside Bar & Grill, the Metropolitan, Rimini, Grouse Mountain Grill, CBAR and Splendido at various stations along the trail. The tax-deductible registration is $100 per person and includes food, wine and a commemorative gift. Children under 12 are free and teens, ages 13-19, are $50.
“Since opening in March 2007, Jack’s Place has provided over 6,300 nights of respite for patients of Shaw Regional Cancer Center and their caregivers,” said Kim Sharkey, manager of Jack’s Place. “There is no financial obligation for patients staying at Jack’s Place; we rely on donations and the Hike, Wine & Dine event to help offset our operating costs to ensure no one worries about a place to stay while they receive treatment here.”
New this year, hikers will travel through a special section of the trail where pink and yellow ribbons will fly from the trees in honor and in memory of those affected by cancer. Ribbons are available for purchase for $50 during the online registration process.
Event registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Coffee, mimosas and breakfast will be served at the base of Beaver Creek’s Centennial Lift and the hike begins at 10 a.m. This year’s menu includes:

• Petite Lobster Pot Pies by Chef Jay McCarthy of CBAR
• Greek Yogurt, Palisade Peaches & Lavender Honey by Chef Michele Huyke of Rimini
About Jack’s Place
Jack’s Place, a luxury lodge for patients of Shaw, overlooks the Sawatch Mountain Range and the Eagle River and features a yoga studio, meditation room, wireless internet and a double gourmet kitchen. Proud to have a pay-what-you-can philosophy, Jack’s Place is funded by Shaw Outreach Team events and donations. Patients most frequently make a $25 per night donation for lodging however the actual cost per night is $125. Hike, Wine and Dine subsidizes those costs to ensure that no patient is burdened with the cost of lodging while focusing on beating cancer. Jack’s Place and Shaw Regional Cancer Center are services provided by Vail Valley Medical Center, a nonprofit medical center since 1965.
